We landed at Malaga airport about 7pm local time and drove north for an hour to a little town called Puente Genil in Cordoba. This is the home town of Carlos who works with Paul and is letting is stay with him for a week! Puente Genil is where he grew up and where his parents live so we are staying with them for a few days while Carlos shows us around.
Carlos and Marina greeted us outside the house and helped us reverse into the basement (not a garage, the car was in the house)! We then met Carlos’s parents Antonio and Delores who are known to everyone as Berna (his dad was Bernadino) and Lolly. They do not speak any English so we know we will have to learn quick if we want to talk to them!
We unpacked and Carlos showed us around the house, it is massive with 4 floors and a patio and swimming pool out the back. We took our things to our room on the 3rd floor and then sat down to dinner about 10pm. Lolly had made tapas – tortilla, serrano ham, cheese, pate, salmorejo (a tomato based sauce). We were also introduced to the local drink of red wine and fanta lemon called tinto con limon! We didn’t get to bed until 2am.
